Nicki Minaj Album ‘Pink Friday’ Certified Platinum

Nicki Minaj Album PlatinumI think all us Barbz and Kenz knew that “Pink Friday” was going to go platinum, but did Nicki Minaj or any of us think the album would go platinum this fast? Congratulations Nicki Minaj on the RIAA certifying her debut album platinum after being released for less than two months! Do you think “Pink Friday” will go double platinum? triple platinum? What are your predictions Barbz and Kenz? I see the album reaching 2x platinum, but I really don’t think it will reach x3 platinum. I could be wrong though, but anyway this is a big accomplishment for a female rapper considering the state of the music industry. Nicki Minaj we love you!

Nicki Minaj ‘Moment 4 Life’ Compliments Billboard Chart Success

Nicki Minaj is the biggest star in hip-hop right now and her debut LP Pink Friday currently sits at no. 1 and no. 8 on Billboard’s Rap Albums and 200 charts, respectively. But the MC is still digesting her moment of being well known and signed to Young Money. Barbie Nicki Minaj spoke to MTV News about how genuinely shocked she is from all of her good fortune.

“I never imagined that Young Money/ Cash Money would be the hip-hop crew,” Minaj said. “To be signed to them is one thing, but to be signed to them when they’re at their height, when this has become like an insane movement? No, I never imagined that, because when Wayne first called and reached out, I thought it was a joke.”

Her continued surprise at becoming a pop culture princess shows how significant her upcoming single and video, “Moment 4 Life,” is to her because the track sums up how hard she worked in her career. The hook of the song, produced by Canada’s T-Minus, brings us into her state of euphoria.

“I wish that I could have this moment for life, for life, for life, ‘Cause in this moment I just feel so alive, alive, alive,” Nicki Minaj sings.

Straying away from the standard rap song construction of three verses and a hook, Nicki performs a brain-dump of sorts on the track, spitting as if she’s making a speech to both her fans and detractors.

“I fly with the stars in the skies, I am no longer trying to survive, I believe that life is a prize, but to live doesn’t mean you’re alive/ Don’t worry bout me and who I fire, I get what I desire it’s my empire, and yes I call the shots I am the umpire, I sprinkle holy water upon a vampire, vampire/ And this very moment I’m king, this very moment I slay Goliath with a sling, this very moment I bring, put it on everything that I will retire with the ring/ And I will retire with the crown, Yes! No I’m not lucky I’m blessed, Yes! Clap for the heavyweight champ, Me! But I couldn’t do it all alone, We!/ Young Money raised me, grew up out in Baisley/ Southside Jamaica, Queens and it’s crazy, cuz I’m still hood, Hollywood couldn’t change me, shout out to my haters, sorry that you couldn’t faze me/Ain’t being cocky we just vindicated, best believe that when we’re done this moment will be syndicated, I don’t know/ This night just reminds me of everything that they deprived me of/ Put ya drinks up, it’s a celebration every time we link up, we done did everything they can think of, greatness is what we on the brink of.”

Addressing issues like firing her former manager Deb Antney and making enough money to support herself and buy her mother a house, shown on her MTV “My Time Now” documentary, fans are allowed entry into Nicki’s psyche. Shooting her latest clip for “Moment 4 Life” is a great toast to her achievements with Pink Friday .

“A part of me expected it [the success], because I wanted it so bad, but I never saw all of this,” Minaj said.

Nicki Minaj Album Be GOLD BARBZ KENZ

Nicki Minaj Birthday PartyThroughout the year, one of the biggest question marks was Nicki Minaj ‘Pink Friday.’ Her debut album had tons of buzz, but many questioned how a hip-hop record by a female would sell in this day and age. Would Nicki Minaj be able to steer her own ship to the big numbers demanded by record executives and expected by fans? Well, the answer is a resounding “yes” as ‘Pink Friday’ has gone gold and even outsold Kanye West’s monstrous ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ over the past week.

‘Pink Friday,’ which was officially released three weeks ago, pushed past 500,000 units by moving an additional 81,900 in the past week. With these steady sales numbers, Nicki Minaj held down the No. 6 spot on the Billboard Top 200 and beat Kanye’s weekly numbers by approximately 16,000 copies.

Minaj hasn’t been shy about the fact that her record outsold all female hip-hop artists other than Lauryn Hill in its first week, but sustained sales are what go beyond the hype and show if the public is truly connecting to the music beyond the usual first-week marketing.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Minaj talked about future expectations for herself. “There’s some songs I just won’t write because I’m afraid of it not meeting my expectation of what I know that song could be,” Nicki Minaj said. “I don’t compete with other people, I compete with myself.”

With one of the only gold hip-hop albums of the year, Minaj has set the competition bar pretty high.
